Allison’s Story of Hope
In a lot of ways, Allison is a typical teenage girl. She likes watching movies, shopping and eating fast food.
But Allison also struggles with autism and severe cognitive impairment.
For years, Allison’s family worked tirelessly to keep her safe at home. But when Allison’s physical aggression and tendency to run away became too dangerous, they knew they needed help.
Her mother explains, “Allison’s aggressive behavior was taking a toll on all of us and I noticed that she was regressing in some of her basic skills. Mostly, I was terrified about what would happen if she wandered towards the water near our house.”
Imagine the worry in this mother’s heart as she thought about her daughter’s future.
Then imagine her relief when she finally found hope… at The Hope Institute.
“Hope has made such a remarkable difference in Allison’s life,” her mother says. “She responded very positively to her individualized routine. And Hope’s caring staff worked with her to understand the meaning of ‘stop’ so she doesn’t run off anymore. Everything Allison’s learned at Hope – patience, cooperation, even her vocational training – has prepared her for a successful transition to adult living.”
The Hope Institute offers hopeful futures to thousands of children with disabilities every day. But we could never make this crucial difference in so many young lives without the ongoing and generous support of caring friends like you.
Thank you for opening your heart and for bringing Hope into their young lives. All of us at Hope wish you health and much happiness in the New Year.
