Steven’s Story of Hope

Dec 28, 2010 | Uncategorized

Steven loves to play and have fun with his friends and family. He’s a special young man who has a close relationship with his loving grandfather, David.

When Steven was6 months old, he suffered a serious brain injury that resulted in a seizure disorder and partial paralysis on theleftside of his body. Since then, he’s struggled to concentrate and is very hyperactive.

Steven’s teachers tried everything, but they couldn’t control his extreme activity. They even strapped him to a chair, but Steven had so much energy he scooted it across the classroom floor!

David worried whether Steven would ever be able to learn. His grandson was so inquisitive – he wished someone knew how to focus that curiosity on learning. He felt they had run out of options.

Until they found hope… at The Hope Institute.

Today, Steven is a happy little boy who loves learning. Hope’s specialists employ a unique lesson break routine to maximize his attention, engaging him in fun songs about colors, numbers and shapes. His therapist, Amanda, says “Steven is growing by leaps and bounds every day!”

David says Steven’s much calmer at home now. They can enjoy dinner at a restaurant – something they could never do before. And, for the first time ever, he and Steven can have a peaceful moment reading a bedtime story together.

Hope’s state of the art learning, living and wellness services provide hopeful futures for thousands of children with disabilities, just like Steven. But we depend on the generosity of caring people like you to make such a tremendous difference in so many young lives.

Thank you for opening your heart to the special needs of our wonderful children. Steven. All of us here at The Hope Institute wish you a happy and healthy (season).
