Hope students love to give back to the community.That’s why a pair of vocational students teamed up Tuesday, July 29, to paint and sand wood furniture at the Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County’s ReStore in Springfield. Once the items are finished, they will be resold at the store. The funds help provide housing to families in need.

Hope vocational teacher Christina Hoffman said the experience builds résumés, teaches job skills and connects youth to the community.

“Any time you can get students learning skills in the community and outside of the classroom, it’s going to be a positive thing for them,” she said.

The students worked to restore a table, as well as a dog house made from an end table.

It was the second time students have volunteered at the ReStore. In June, students also worked on transforming an end table into a dog house.

Hope staff plan on students returning twice a month.
